IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
Axial T2-weighted MRI through the pelvic area shows the high signal abnormality filling the entire periacetabular area with slight dilatation of the bone but no evidence of cortical breakthrough. The diagnosis was initially felt to be fibrous dysplasia but at the time of biopsy there was extensive hemorrhagic activity in the area of the lesion which histologically revealed plasma cells. The diagnosis of solitary plasmacytoma was made based on the fact that there was no other skeletal involvement and minimal monoclonal protein abnormality in the serum electrophoresis.
